I love the tone of this color. Shades of blue make me calm. The added violet makes the blue come alive.
I've always liked deep, rich blues and purples. Probably it came from watching too many early-Technicolor movies too young, but wherever the urge came from, I wanted all my colors to be rich and vibrant. Or maybe I thought that if I used those colors, I could grow up to be rich and vibrant. Anyway, blue violet is the classic deep blue that I used to wish the sky could be all the time. It's a color that suggests promise and peace to me. Back in 1968 my family lived in a neighborhood very near a wooded hillside. At sunset on the warm summer evenings I loved to sit on the corner beneath the new "Mercury Vapor" street lamps and watch the cavorting bats that were feeding on the insects attracted by the light. However, for the first few moments that the lights were turned on, they gave off a deep, lusterous "blue violet" glow that looked almost unearthly. It is a time and a "color" that I remember fondly.
