I was in the second grade when I found out about the Crayola 64-pack. You know - the one with the sharpener. Suddenly I realized that periwinkle existed, and that the world could be colored in so many different ways. For at least a month, everything was a subtle shade of blue-grey. I can still remember when I got my first big box of 64 crayons with the built in sharpener. I always kept my crayons arranged in color families. I don't know why periwinkle first stood out to me, but it has ALWAYS been my favorite. It's simply the perfect color! It was the color I could use both for flowers AND for the sky in the drawings I made for my own mother.
