Why

Mother Goose is on the loose with this fun-filled shirt pocket activity. Recreate a favorite nursery rhyme (or any event) with a recycled shirt, pockets, and Crayola® Fabric Markers.

Steps

1. What’s your favorite nursery rhyme? Use Crayola Markers to draw and color the characters on recycled file folders. Cut them out with Crayola Scissors.
2. Ask an adult to help you find a recycled shirt and fabric scraps. Lay them on paper. Draw scenes on them from the rhyme with Crayola Fabric Markers. Crayola® Fabric Markers stain clothing and surfaces, CLOSE ADULT SUPERVISION IS REQUIRED. Using fabric scraps, cut out one pocket for each character you made. With Crayola School Glue, attach the pockets to the shirt. Air-dry the glue. (If you want be able to launder the shirt, ASK AN ADULT to sew on the pockets instead of using glue.)
3. Put the figures in the pockets. Pull them out, in order, to retell your favorite nursery rhyme.

Safety Guidelines

Costumes & Masks— CAUTION: When children wear hand-crafted costumes and masks, make sure the crafts do not obstruct the child’s vision, hearing, or impede movement. Do not use feathers, fabric, or raffia on wearable costumes and masks because these items do not pass costume flammability tests. Wearable masks are those held in place on the face with elastic, yarn, or other materials. Keep away from open flames.

Scissors—ATTENTION: The cutting edges of scissors are sharp and care should be taken whenever cutting or handling. Blunt-tip scissors should be used only by children 4 years and older. Pointed-tip scissors should be used only by children 6 years and older.
