Echoes in Rainbow Colors

Why

Create a design with a terrific outside shape. Then create an "echo" as "sound waves" fill your Color Explosion™ paper.

Steps

  1. 1. Think of an interesting object or design that has a distinct outline. Try some ideas on paper with Crayola® Erasable Color Pencils. Make your outline as tricky as you can with lots of things that stick out and shapes that are unusual.
  2. 2. Draw your object in the center of the Crayola Color Explosion Paper with the Color Reveal Markers.
  3. 3. Make an outline around your drawing. Repeat, each time leaving an even space around the last line, until you fill the page. The more lines you draw, the simpler the shape gets! All of your friends will want to make these, too!

When & Where

"Our Sunday School classes use this idea to put a little pizzazz into crafts! It works with so many topics, from Noah’s ark to the burning bush. "
- Gretchen R., crafts coordinator.

"What a fun way to describe the concept of sound waves. "
- Elwood K., after-school child care provider.

Interesting Info

Sound is a vibration or wave of molecules that is caused by the motion of an object. The waves travel through the air and bounce off objects in its way. A sound that is continued sends off multiple waves. This type of drawing almost looks like you are making music!
