Why
Create your own models and design dream wardrobe for each one. Add an easel back for their runway. Plan a sleepover around fashion fun!
Steps
- 1. Look through your Crayola Project Kit: Fashion Portfolio to see your models and all of their wardrobe options. Use Crayola Twistables® Colored Pencils and/or Fine Line Markers to personalize each model’s hair and style! Show your own curves, hair, and body type.
- 2. Design your dream wardrobe for each model! Mix and match the printed clothes with patterned papers and colors for interesting outfits. Choose stencils as needed for each piece of clothing. Adjust patterns to match your models. Flip over the stencil as needed to get the effects you want. Trace around the stencils on the paper if you like, or go to the next step and cut with the stencils. You ARE a fashion designer!
- 3. Place the paper clothing on the cutting mat. Use the Crayola Cutter according to the package directions to cut out your models and their wardrobes. Hold the Cutter at a 90-degree angle for best results. Make inside cuts for layered effects. Glue clothing on your models with Crayola School Glue.
- 4. Use the printed accessory pages or invent your own purses, belts, or other cool stuff with the printed papers. You can use a belt as a headband or scarf, for example. Add details with colored pencils and markers. Glue on buttons or other small decorative items to jazz up your outfits!
- 5. To make stand-up easels for your models, ask an adult to cut two narrow strips of foam board for each one. Glue models to the foam board. Cut and glue two triangles behind their feet. Air-dry the glue before standing them upright.
- 6. Add a nameplate, too. Cut two rectangles from patterned papers that match your outfit. On the piece that you’d like to go in front, use the Cutter to cut out wide letters of your name. Glue the other paper on the back so the letters show through. Add a rectangle of foam board to the back. Glue your nameplate to the model. It’s show time!
When & Where
"Our scouts really enjoyed making these. They told each other about their outfits to introduce themselves to the group. "
- Janeece K., Troop leader and mother of 9-year-old.
"My girls glued tiny photos of themselves on the model faces. They spent an afternoon dreaming about what they want to be."
- Marianne C., mother of 10-year-old twins.
Interesting Info
Some people think that fashion and models are a pretty new idea, but the phrases “in fashion” and “out of fashion” were used by William Shakespeare in “Julius Caesar” and other writings! The word “fashion” comes from Middle English and meant to make or shape an appearance.
