Why

Don’t look now, but there’s a HUGE spider on your pencil! Drawing, writing, and homework are more fun with Wacky Spider Pencil Toppers. See how they’re made on Crayola CreaTiVe™ Workshop.

Steps

  1. 1. Use Crayola Scissors to cut chenille stem in half. Cut each piece in half to make four short stems. Gather the stems together and wrap a rubber band around the middle.
  2. 2. Roll two small pieces of Crayola Model Magic® Fusion™ together enough to marble the colors. Wrap the ball around the rubber band and form into a spider shape using your fingers. Bend and separate the legs on each side of the spider’s body.
  3. 3. Squeeze the body onto the end of a Crayola Colored Pencil. Model Magic Fusion dries to the touch overnight and dries completely in 2 to 3 days.
  4. 4. When the spider is dry, give it two eyes and a smile with a Crayola Marker. You’re ready to draw!

When & Where

"We put our Wacky Spider Pencil Toppers with other prizes in Spin-a-Web Treat Bags (also on Crayola.com) and gave them out at our Cub Scout Halloween Days event as awards for the pumpkin-decorating contest. "
- Rod Z., scout leader.

"I had so much fun making these with the kids at my last babysitting job! I brought a new box of Crayola Colored Pencils and a pack of neon Model Magic Fusion. We made Wacky Spider Pencil Toppers for all of their friends! "
- Angelica G., teenage babysitter.

Interesting Info

While many spiders spin webs to catch prey, Nursery Web Spiders spin webs in low plants to care for their young.
