Why

Giving gift cards for the winter holidays? Make unique holders for them that will please the recipients as much as the cards do!

Steps

1. These are a few ideas for making unique gift card holders. Use your imagination and popular Crayola products to design holders that are unique for each recipient!
2. Using white Crayola Color Explosion™, cut out holiday shapes—mittens, menorahs, or snowflakes—with the Crayola Cutter. For best results, cut on the back side. Make fancy interior cutouts, too, as only the Cutter can do! Use the Color Explosion Marker to discover the unexpected colors under the white. With the black outline marker, add designs and details (such as mitten stitching). With Crayola School Glue, attach ribbon to the backs of each piece. Tape the gift card in place.
3. Or you could draw bright holiday pictures such as a dreidel on black Crayola Color Explosion paper. Before you cut out the shape, add tabs to the bottom and sides. Fold the tabs back and glue them to a note card or another piece of Color Explosion paper to create a convenient pocket for the gift card.
4. Use your Crayola Cutter to design festive shapes such as Christmas stockings. You can easily make neat cuts inside your designs, too. Glue bits of bright paper behind the cuts, so the colors peek through! To add ribbon for hanging the stockings, cut small holes in the top corners of the card and tie. Another way to add dimension to your design is to place self-adhesive foam dots between layers.
5. Crayola Model Magic® Fusion™ sticks on almost any surface, including paper, so you can make your own 3-D cards with matching envelopes. Press on textured objects such as twigs and beads. Fusion dries to the touch overnight and dries completely in 2 to 3 days.
6. However you make your card holders, the recipients are sure to appreciate your gift—and the package in which it comes!

Interesting Info

The first actual credit card was a Diners Club card, which began in 1950 with about 200 members and could be used at several different eating establishments. Today credit cards are accepted almost everywhere. Gift certificates used to be written on paper, but today most are electronically scanned onto plastic cards, too.

Safety Guidelines

Color Explosion™ Black—Wash hands well with soap and water after use.

Crayola Modeling Materials including Crayola Model Magic®, and Model Magic Fusion™, Crayola Air-Dry Clay, and Crayola Dough—

Keep away from open flames. Do not use to make candleholders, hot plates, trivets, or other similar objects that will be used or placed near fire and other heat sources.
Do not put in an oven, microwave, or kiln.
Do not make into vessels/containers that will hold unpackaged food.
The use of modeling material to make items that look like food is discouraged for children younger than age 5 to avoid their confusion with real food.
Unless sealed with a water-resistant glaze, do not make projects exposed to or immersed in water, such as boats or outdoor bird feeders. They would disintegrate when exposed to moisture.
Crayola Dough—contains gluten (wheat flour) as an ingredient.
Crayola Air-Dry Clay, Crayola Model Magic and Model Magic Fusion are gluten-free. However, they are produced on the same machinery as Crayola Dough which does contain gluten. Although the machines are cleaned prior to the start of each production run, there is a slight possibility that trace amounts of gluten from Crayola Dough may be present in the other modeling compound products. Scissors—ATTENTION: The cutting edges of scissors are sharp and care should be taken whenever cutting or handling. Blunt-tip scissors should be used only by children 4 years and older. Pointed-tip scissors should be used only by children 6 years and older.

String-Like Materials—Includes string, raffia, lacing, yarn, ribbon, and other similar material. Children 3 years and younger should not be given any string-like material that is longer than 12 inches. Close adult supervision is essential whenever children use string-like material. When crafts are to be worn around the necks of children 8 years and younger, attach the ends of the “string-like material” with clear adhesive tape, which allows easy release of the bond if the craft becomes entangled or caught on equipment. For children older than 8 years, the ends of the “string-like material” may be tied and knotted.
