Why

When it comes to making someone smile, creating your own gifts always works! Make this fun flower for a grandmother, teacher, child care provider, friend, or for your Mom for Mother’s Day!

Steps

  1. 1. Make your flower and vase pieces using Crayola Color Explosion™ White Paper, Markers, and Scissors. Draw two propeller-like flower parts with three petals each. Cut out. Cut two circles, one smaller than the other, to fit the center of the flower.
  2. 2. Roll a section of Color Explosion White Paper into a long, tight tube for a flower stem. Glue the edges. Secure with a rubber band on each end while it dries. Ask a friend or grown-up to help if needed.
  3. 3. Measure and cut Color Explosion Paper to fit around the oatmeal box for the vase. Cut a shape on which to write someone’s name and/or a message.
  4. 4. Add amazing designs to all of the pieces with a Color Explosion White Marker. All of the colors come from just one marker! Use your own ideas or try these techniques: Design bouncy lines around the edges of petals. • Draw short lines around the larger circle. • Create a spiral in the center of the smaller circle. • Use a black Crayola Washable Marker to draw a checkerboard border across the top of the paper that will cover the container. Use the Color Explosion White Marker to turn the white squares colorful. • Make alternating stripes using Crayola Washable Markers and the Color Explosion White Marker. • Write the name or message in fancy lettering. Outline the letters with a black Fine Tip Marker. Fill in the rest of the shape with a checkerboard using a black Crayola Marker.
  5. 5. Assemble your 3-D Flower. Cut four short loops from a recycled cardboard tube. Glue a loop to the back of each circle and flower petal part. Air-dry the glue.
  6. 6. Glue the flower parts one on top of another in this order: small circle on large circle on flower petal part on other flower petal part. Air-dry glue.
  7. 7. Glue flower to the stem. Tape to reinforce as needed. Wrap the vase cover around the oatmeal box and glue in place. Glue nameplate to the front. Air-dry the glue.
  8. 8. Ask an adult to poke a hole in the top of the oatmeal box lid. Put lid on box. Push flower stem into hole.

When & Where

"I always bring Color Explosion paper and markers to babysitting jobs. I saw this craft online. Kids made a whole bouquet of flowers for their mom. It was so fun! I made one a bouquet, too! "
- Bethany C., teenage babysitter.

"Our homeschoolers’ group visits a local senior center once a week. We made Fun 3-D Flowers with them just before Mother’s Day. The smiles were as lovely as the flowers. "
- Julianna W., home-school parent.

Interesting Info

White flowers tend to be more scented than those of other colors.
