Why
Row your boat up to the dock in this fingerpainting where colorful crayon craft stand out on the blue water!
Steps
- 1. How did the Finger Lakes region of New York get its name? Look on a map and you’ll see! The area is a great place to kayak, canoe, hike, and bike. Imagine you’re on one of these lakes, or your favorite watersports spot, while you combine Crayola Crayons with Fingerpaint. Crayon resist—which is what you’ll be doing—is simply irresistible!
- 2. Draw a bright, summery lakeside scene with crayons. Include the shoreline, boats, piers, and people swimming—show everything except for the water. Press hard so you get a nice thick coat of colorful crayon wax.
- 3. Cover your craft area with newspaper. With Crayola® Fingerpaints, cover your scene with beautiful blue "water." Your boats look like they are bobbing in the lake. Children are playing on the beach. The crayon colors "pop" right out from the background! Can you resist making more cool pictures? What a great way to spend your summer holidays!
When & Where
"This was good activity for my grandchildren while they visited us at the lake. We did it outside, so there was no mess and lots of inspiration surrounding us. "
- Muriel J., grandmother of 3- and 6-year-olds.
"Long after the children figured out how crayon resist works, they kept drawing and fingerpainting."
- Gloria F., preschool craft volunteer.
Interesting Info
Even though there are 90,000 lakes in Sweden, the largest and also the deepest lake in Europe and Asia is located in Russia.
