Why

Create a cheery bouquet in a simple basket with no-mess Color Wonder™ Paint and Markers. These handcrafted flowers make a touching gift from a young child!

Steps

  1. 1. Accordion-fold lengthwise a piece of Crayola Color Wonder™ Paper. Unfold and refold it with accordion folds going the other direction. Unfold the paper.
  2. 2. Paint along the fold lines with Color Wonder™ Paint. The paint on the folds will be darker and look almost like a woven basket! Air-dry the paint.
  3. 3. Fold the painted page in half and roll it into a cylinder for a basket. Tape edges together. Stand basket upright.
  4. 4. On more Color Wonder™ Paper, paint several flower heads and petals. Make big, bright flowery shapes. Tear out the flowers so they have ruffled edges. Tear a tiny hole in the center of each flower.
  5. 5. Color long, wide strips using Color Wonder™ Markers in stem colors such as green and yellow. Tear and fold these strips into thirds for stems. Stick one end of each folded stem into the hole in a flower. Bend the end. Tape flowers together underneath the blossoms. Place stemmed flowers inside the basket.

- Benton J., museum craft volunteer.

Interesting Info

Tulips were originally wild flowers from Central Asia. The word tulip means turban in Turkish. At one time during the Middle Ages in the Netherlands, people got caught up in a tulip-trading frenzy. New colors and new varieties were valued more than some houses in Amsterdam. The collecting craze stopped when tulips became over supplied.
