Why

Make homework time go a lot faster! Assignments are more fun with a pencil top specially designed for every subject.

Steps

  1. 1. Homework really can be fun! How could you turn ordinary pencils into Smart Pencils designed for different kinds of projects?
  2. 2. Use Crayola Model Magic® Fusion™ compound to create Smart Pencils. Fusion fresh from the package will stick to the pencil and to itself. Wrap it around your pencils and press in place. Use your imagination or try some of these ideas: • Design a pencil to look like a treat. Wrap thick snakes around the pencil to look like a rainbow twirl lolly. • Marble two colors by smooshing them together a bit. Press in place around the pencil. • Cover the pencil top with Model Magic. Roll thin snakes in another color. Break off small pieces to create math symbols. • Design a science pencil that looks like rocks and soil. • Press small pieces of two colors to create a checkerboard. • Press on balls of Model Magic for heads. Add small bits for hair, smiles, and eyes to create "friends" to help you finish tough assignments.
  3. 3. Add Crayola Glitter Glue designs for dazzle. Give a twinkle to an eye. Outline symbols. Create dots and stripes. Air-dry the glue. Fusion dries to the touch overnight and dries completely in 2 to 3 days.

When & Where

"We started a tradition to create pencils to go with each theme. So far we have astronomy, Canada, and Native American pencils. "
- Lynn L., home school parent of children ages 13, 10, 9, and 7.

"Our Back-to-School night craft stations were a hit with this idea. The colorful pencils and smiling faces made great photos for our online newsletter!"
- Kathryn J., and Connie R., PTA co-leaders.

Interesting Info
