Why

When the eggs are all decorated and you are still in the mood to be creative, make an Egg-Citing Table Topper with Crayola Crayons, Colored Pencils, and Watercolors.

Steps

  1. 1. Cover the table surface with recycled newspaper. Have containers of water and paper towels on hand.
  2. 2. Use Crayola Scissors to cut paper into large egg shapes.
  3. 3. Draw bright designs on each egg shape using Crayola Crayons. TIP: For best results, use regular Crayola Crayons instead of the Washable variety.
  4. 4. Paint over the crayon designs using Crayola Washable Watercolors. Notice how the crayon designs pop right through the watercolors!
  5. 5. When dry, attach each egg to a Crayola Colored Pencil using two pieces of tape on the back. OPTIONAL: Attach another egg shape to the back of each pencil so the table topper looks complete from all view points.
  6. 6. Fill a flower pot, plastic container, or box with aquarium gravel, marbles, lots of small balls, or rocks. "Plant" each egg-topped pencil in the material. Arrange so each pencil can be seen.
  7. 7. Place your Egg-citing Table Topper on a holiday table. Use the pencils in your Egg-citing Table Topper to play Easter games or create Easter artwork. Design and print your own coloring pages with Crayola.com’s Spring Decor-egg-er found in the Games and Activities section of this website.

When & Where

"Our table was already covered from decorating eggs, so this craft just kept the fun going. Then we used the colored pencils from our table topper over and over again – to write letters to the Easter Bunny, to color, to do homework, and even to play bunny tic-tac-toe. "
- Wanda R., mother of four, ages 5, 9, 13, and 14

"I displayed each child’s Egg-citing Table Topper pencils in little flower pots on the craft table all month. Then I printed out a new Easter activity page every day. They loved using their "egg pencils"! "
- Debbie R., family childcare provider

Interesting Info
