Why

While dashing through holiday preparations, take time to have fun with these favorite seasonal characters. Promote language development by encouraging kids to create scripts for their new puppets.

Steps

  1. 1. Think about how to construct a puppet of Santa Claus or a reindeer using a paper lunch bag.
  2. 2. On colored construction paper, use Crayola® Crayons to draw and color accessories for Santa or his reindeer. For example, make reindeer antlers or Santa's hat and arms.
  3. 3. Cut out your creations with Crayola Scissors. Use a Crayola Glue Stick to attach the pieces to the paper bag.
  4. 4. Color the puppets. Add features such as eyes and hair.

When & Where

"The kids made a herd of reindeer for Santa, and a sleigh. Next year we'll do elves."
- ReighAnn G., family child care provider.

"My grandkids had so much fun while their parents shopped. They put on a show before they went home."
- Lucile T., grandmother of 5 kids ages 2 to 13.

Interesting Info

The Puritan immigrants to North America thought Thanksgiving was more important to celebrate than Christmas.
