Why

Make an impressive poinsettia centerpiece handmade by your family.

Steps

  1. 1. Draw poinsettia leaves on red, pink, green, and/or white construction paper with Crayola® Crayons. Cut out with Crayola Scissors.
  2. 2. Decorate leaves with crayons and Crayola Glitter Glue. Dry overnight.
  3. 3. Cut a piece of construction paper large enough to cover a recycled cardboard canister to use as a vase. Decorate the cover with crayons and glitter glue. Dry overnight. Glue the cover to the outside of the vase with a Crayola Glue Stick.
  4. 4. Ask an adult to poke a hole in each leaf. Push chenille sticks through these holes to create stems. Arrange poinsettias in the vase.

When & Where

"Our troop took these centerpieces to a nursing home. The residents were pleased to have decorations made by the girls."
- LaTasha V., scout leader.

"The kids were proud that we used their centerpieces for several holiday celebrations."
- Mario W., dad of three, ages 6 to 11.

Interesting Info

Poinsettias are called Christmas flowers because of their bright red and green colors. The poinsettia flower is the yellow cluster in the center. Their red, pink, or white parts are leaves. Poinsettias are native to Mexico.
