Why

What seasonal scene can your kids fit inside a cup? These miniatures are great for fine-motor skills and decorating any time of year!

Steps

  1. 1. With Crayola® Colored Pencils, trace around a clear plastic cup turned upside down on cardboard. Cut out the circle with Crayola Scissors.
  2. 2. Choose a seasonal scene to make inside your cup. For fall, could it be a scarecrow sitting in a cornfield, apples on a tree, or a field of pumpkins?
  3. 3. Cover the cardboard circle with Model Magic for the base of your scene. Sculpt a tiny scarecrow, cornstalks, pumpkins, basket of apples, birds, or other items that will fit inside your cup. Add Crayola Glitter Glue accents. Dry.
  4. 4. Draw a ring of Crayola School Glue around the outside edge of the base. Press the cup's edge into the glue. Dry.

When & Where

"Our girls sculpted favorite activities from their hayride at the pumpkin patch!"
- Shondella W., scout leader.

"Kids insisted on making miniature scenes for all four seasons."
- Carlos R., art assistant at Saturday in the Park.

Interesting Info

No one knows the true origin of the scarecrow. Some say that it was a baker's old pole used in large brick ovens to take out the bread. When it wore out, it would be put to use in the field and draped in clothes. Scarecrows were also called Jack-a-Lent, Mammet, or Tattie Bouie in various parts of the world.
