Why

Santa's Sleigh is headed for your home! Kids use their imaginations to make this decoration for a mantle or table, or to give as a gift.

Steps

  1. 1. Cut black construction paper with Crayola® Scissors to cover a rectangular tissue box so it looks like Santa's Sleigh. Cut or draw sled runners. Decorate the sleigh's sides with Crayola Glitter Glue and Crayola Metallic FX Crayons. Attach the sleigh cover to the tissue box with Crayola School Glue.
  2. 2. Glue brown construction paper on cardboard tubes for reindeer. Cut reindeer legs from cardboard. Cut four slits in the bottom of each tube to insert legs. Glue and dry before standing.
  3. 3. Draw reindeer faces on brown paper using metallic crayons or Crayola Gel Markers. Use glitter glue to make Rudolph's red nose. Cut out faces and glue to tubes.
  4. 4. Use colored construction paper to make Santa's hat, coat, and sack of toys. Glue him sitting in his sleigh. Dry.
  5. 5. Glue chenille stick reins between reindeer and Santa. Dry.

When & Where

"My kids worked on this together! Then they wrote their letters to Santa."
- Janella P., mother of 6- and 8-year-olds.

"We displayed these sleighs at our open house. Students wrote Christmas poems to put in Santa's sack."
- Hans C., 4th-grade room parent.

Interesting Info

In the Netherlands, St. Nicholas is known as Sinterklass. Children fill their shoes with hay and sugar for his horse. Everyone likes surprises, so the Dutch often wrap small gifts in larger packages or hide gifts in unexpected places.
