Why

Showcase your favorite winter sports with this one-of-a-kind Snow Mobile. Recycle cardboard tubes and milk cartons into heart-warming art projects!

Steps

1. Use Crayola® Scissors to cut construction paper to cover two cardboard tubes and five quart-size milk cartons.
2. Decorate tube covers with snowflakes or winter sports symbols using Crayola Metallic FX Crayons.
3. With Crayola Metallic Colored Pencils and crayons, fill milk carton sides with drawings and words, such as names of your favorite winter sports, team logos, or athletes and their names.
4. Attach the paper covers with Crayola School Glue. Dry.
5. To assemble the hanger for your Snow Mobile, cut a slot out of the middle of each cardboard tube. Make the slot as wide as the other cardboard tube. Cut it halfway through the tube so you can nest the two cardboard tubes into each other to form an X. Tie ribbon or heavy string tightly around the intersection, leaving a long end for hanging the mobile from the ceiling.
6. Staple a long piece of ribbon, yarn, or string to one milk carton and tie the other end around the cardboard tube X. Attach shorter lengths of ribbon to the other four cartons. Tie one carton on each end of the tubes.
7. Draw snowflakes and winter sports symbols on paper. Cut them out, attach them to string, and hang them from your mobile.

Safety Guidelines

Recycled Containers—Must be clean and safe. Do not use containers that contained bleach or other harmful chemicals (for example, household cleaners, dishwasher or laundry detergents). Do not use recycled metal cans that have sharp edges (for example, lids removed by household can openers).

Scissors—ATTENTION: The cutting edges of scissors are sharp and care should be taken whenever cutting or handling. Blunt-tip scissors should be used only by children 4 years and older. Pointed-tip scissors should be used only by children 6 years and older.

String-Like Materials—Includes string, raffia, lacing, yarn, ribbon, and other similar material. Children 3 years and younger should not be given any string-like material that is longer than 12 inches. Close adult supervision is essential whenever children use string-like material. When crafts are to be worn around the necks of children 8 years and younger, attach the ends of the “string-like material” with clear adhesive tape, which allows easy release of the bond if the craft becomes entangled or caught on equipment. For children older than 8 years, the ends of the “string-like material” may be tied and knotted.
