Beach Bandana Checkers craft

Create your own game…to go! Make lightweight checkers and a bandana playing board. Wrap up the checkers and you’re off to play with a friend.

  • 1.

    Design your checkerboard. Lay a plain bandana flat on plain paper. Use a ruler and Crayola® Erasable Colored Pencils to measure and mark a checkerboard with eight rows of eight squares each.

    Choose a fun theme for your board and checkers. How about seashells, bugs, or flags? Color your checkerboard with two Crayola Fabric Marker colors, one light and one dark. Alternate colors so no square touches another square of the same color. Decorate the bandana border, too, if you like. Crayola® Fabric Markers stain clothing and surfaces, CLOSE ADULT SUPERVISION IS REQUIRED.

    Make your checkers. Design two sets of 12 checkers with two colors of Crayola Model Magic. Choose any shape that goes with your theme! Roll small balls and press flat. Press on small pieces of Model Magic to add details. Add lines and texture with a craft stick or comb. Air-dry checkers for 24 hours.

    Designs must be heat set by an adult so it can be laundered. Set the iron to cotton. Iron on the reverse side using a back and forth motion for 4 minutes. Or put in the dryer for 30 minutes on the hottest setting.
