Alien Puppet

Why

Who just landed from outer space? What happened when they met Earthlings? Make your own puppets and stage a show!

Steps

1. Read about strangers from faraway galaxies. What are your ideas of how an alien could look?

2. Use Crayola® Erasable Colored Pencils and your imagination to draw an alien on construction paper. Color it in with Crayola Gel Markers. Decorate it with Crayola Glitter Glue. Air dry flat.

3. Cut out your space alien with Crayola Scissors.

4. Color a recycled cardboard roll with your markers. Air dry.

5. With Crayola School Glue attach your alien to the tube to form a puppet. Air dry before putting on your production!

Safety Guidelines

Adult supervision is required for any arts & crafts project. Observe children closely and intervene as necessary to prevent potential safety problems and ensure appropriate use of arts and crafts materials. Some craft items, particularly beads and buttons, are potential choking hazards for young children. Avoid use of such small parts with children younger than 3 years. Craft items such as scissors, push pins and chenille sticks may have sharp points or edges. Avoid use of materials with sharp points by children younger than 4 years. Read all manufacturers' safety warnings before using arts and craft supplies.

Glitter Glue— WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD—Small parts. Not for children under 3 years. Not for use on skin.

Recycled Cardboard Tubes—Use paper towel tubes, gift-wrap tubes, or long cardboard tubes that can be cut to any length. Health professionals caution against using recycled toilet paper tubes for arts & crafts projects because of the potential fecal contamination.

Scissors—ATTENTION: The cutting edges of scissors are sharp and care should be taken whenever cutting or handling. Blunt-tip scissors should be used only by children 4 years and older. Pointed-tip scissors should be used only by children 6 years and older.

Interesting Info

Puppetry has a long history. Puppets, which are found throughout the world, were created during prehistoric times, first as images of worship and later to teach humans how to solve life's problems. The first written record of puppets was around the 8th century when puppets performed at ceremonial festivals.
