Anime on Your Door or Desk
Design a personalized anime sign to hang on your door or perch on your desk. Make cool cartoon characters for your friends, too!
1. Anime (a-nee-may) is the Japanese word for cartoons or animation. Look at examples of comic books or television shows for ideas. Decide what kind of character you’d like to greet people who come to your door or stop by your desk.
2. Use white paper and Crayola® Erasable Colored Pencils to sketch your ideas. To make large eyes, try a backward letter "j." Experiment with it being very tall and thin, or short and wide. Try different angles for eyebrows to change expressions.
3. Use a simple curved line for a nose (a backwards "L") and a little curve (often a bit off-center) for a mouth. Most anime hair is in small bunches of wavy or straight spikes, with a little hair hanging down on the face.
4. After you’ve created the character, practice lettering your message. Do you want the person to say it (in a speech bubble) or think it (in a thought cloud)?
5. Recreate your ideas on Crayola Color Explosion Paper with Color Reveal Markers. Notice how Color Explosion gives your art a special-effects look! Display your anime for everyone to appreciate!
