Beloved Bear

Why

Stuffed animals are all-time favorites! Kids feel more secure with their cherished companions by their sides, and can show their affection in their drawing.

Steps

1. Gather your stuffed animals around you. Read one of your favorite stories about animals to them.

2. Can you remember the story about each of your stuffed animals? How did the toy came into your life? Think about the adventures you have had together.

3. Using Crayola® Crayons, draw a portrait of one of your favorite stuffed animals. Notice the shape of its face and body. What colors are its fur, bow, and eyes? How can you use crayon strokes to show hair? Are there any worn places where the animal has been hugged a lot? Let your animal's personality shine through your drawing!

4. If your animal has a name, write it on the portrait, too.

Interesting Info

When U.S. President Roosevelt was bear hunting, he came across an old bear that he did not want to hurt. When a candy store owner heard about the President's compassion, he put a stuffed bear in his window with a sign that read "Teddy's bear." So many people wanted to buy the cuddly toy that the storekeeper asked the President for his permission to name the bear Teddy.
