Book Stars

Hard to say good-by to book characters when you finish a book? Turn your favorites into stars - with your own new stories.

1. Did you ever enjoy a book so much that you didn't want it to end? You can keep the story going! Here's how.
2. Choose a book that you finished reading. Imagine what could happen next to the characters you loved the most. Write your story with Crayola® Total Tools™ Write Color Pencils.
3. Cover your art area with newspaper. On construction paper, illustrate your Book Stars in their new adventures with Crayola Watercolors and Crayola Watercolor Brushes. Air dry flat.
4. Add finishing touches to your painting with Crayola Washable Markers.
5. Mount your story and illustration side by side on colored construction paper. Share your Book Stars with someone who loves a good story.

Adult supervision is required for any arts & crafts project.

A division of the American Library Association awards the John Newbery Medal annually to the best children's book. The award was established in 1922 in honor of 18th-century bookseller John Newbery. The Caldecott Medal, named after 19th-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott, is awarded to the best illustrated children's book of the year. Look for these medals on the covers of books at your library or book store.
