Color Trios

Why

Three is a common number in favorite children's tales: the Three Little Pigs, the Three Bears, and Three Billy Goats Gruff. As kids draw with three crayons or markers at a time, they'll enhance their visual awareness, all the while learning about parallel lines and multiples.

Steps

1. Pick out three of your favorite colors from your Crayola Crayons or Washable Markers.

2. Hold all three crayons together. Wrap a rubber band around them. Tape the three crayons together so they won't slip.

3. Now draw with your color trio. Making swirls and curls is as easy as 1..2..3.

Safety Guidelines

Adult supervision is required for any arts & crafts project. Observe children closely and intervene as necessary to prevent potential safety problems and ensure appropriate use of arts and crafts materials. Some craft items, particularly beads and buttons, are potential choking hazards for young children. Avoid use of such small parts with children younger than 3 years. Craft items such as scissors, push pins and chenille sticks may have sharp points or edges. Avoid use of materials with sharp points by children younger than 4 years. Read all manufacturers' safety warnings before using arts and craft supplies.

Where & When

"This is great for keeping my kids amused while we wait for appointments."
Victor F., dad of two kids ages 3 and 4.

Katerina P., family child care provider.

Interesting Info

Drawing and coloring are early writing skills. To encourage using these skills, tape butcher paper, grocery bags, or large sheets of plain white paper to a small table, covering the entire area if you can. That way young artists can write or draw whenever they're interested.
