Cool, Colorful Cubes

Why

Ever wonder how to draw in 3-D? Find out how to create perfect cubes every time—then use the same technique to make other 3-D looks!

Steps

1. To create a 3-D cube, use a Crayola® Fine Line Marker to draw a rectangle on paper.

2. Draw a second rectangle, exactly the same size as the first, which overlaps it. Draw it slightly higher and a bit to the left of the first one.

3. Use short, straight lines to attach each of the four corners of the two rectangles. See a cube emerge!

4. Use a different pattern or color to decorate each side (plane) of the cube. Can you figure out how to draw other shapes in 3-D?

Safety Guidelines

Adult supervision is required for any arts & crafts project. Observe children closely and intervene as necessary to prevent potential safety problems and ensure appropriate use of arts and crafts materials. Some craft items, particularly beads and buttons, are potential choking hazards for young children. Avoid use of such small parts with children younger than 3 years. Craft items such as scissors, push pins and chenille sticks may have sharp points or edges. Avoid use of materials with sharp points by children younger than 4 years. Read all manufacturers' safety warnings before using arts and craft supplies.

Interesting Info

Although you might think that a cube has four sides, it actually has six sides (including the top and bottom). These sides are called planes.
