Crumple Creatures & Caricatures
Make funky characters! Or friends’ faces! Crumple up newspaper and cover it with Crayola Model Magic® Fusion™! How goofy can you make their expressions?
1. This is a fun way to make cute or ferocious imaginary critters—or exaggerated faces of people you know. Crumple up recycled paper into several balls.
2. On a smooth, flat surface, flatten out a Crayola Model Magic® Fusion™ ball to make a large slab. Crayola Marker barrels make great rolling pins. You may even want to lightly knead several colors together to get a tie-dye effect!
3. Place a ball of crumpled recycled newspaper in the center of the slab. Pull the modeling compound up and over to cover the ball. Smooth the edges so the bottom is flat, to keep your creature from rolling away. Repeat with more paper balls.
4. Add any size or shape of modeling compound to make eyes, noses, ears, mouths, or any other features you want. Use a garlic press to squeeze out lots of tiny coils for hair. Make them as simple or sophisticated—or scary—as you like!
5. For tiny details, try Crayola Squeezables™ 3-D Paints. These are great for the pupils in the eyes, teeth, highlights to suggest shine, or any other little doo dads! Fusion dries to the touch overnight and complete air dries in 2 to 3 days.
6. Why not give your creatures names? You could give them jobs or interests depending on the colors you used and expressions you created. Make different sizes and maybe even a habitat diorama in a recycled box to display them! There’s always more fun with Fusion!

- The use of modeling material to make items that look like food is discouraged for children younger than age 5 to avoid their confusion with real food.
- Unless sealed with a water-resistant glaze, do not make projects exposed to or immersed in water, such as boats or outdoor bird feeders. They would disintegrate when exposed to moisture.
- Crayola Dough—contains gluten (wheat flour) as an ingredient. Crayola Air-Dry Clay, Crayola Model Magic, and Model Magic Fusion are gluten-free. However, they are produced on the same machinery as Crayola Dough which does contain gluten. Although the machines are cleaned prior to the start of each production run, there is a slight possibility that trace amounts of gluten from Crayola Dough may be present in the other modeling compound products.
