Dancing Dreidels Table Settings

Why

Decorate for the festive celebration of Chanukah with these delightful, Dancing Dreidels placemats and napkin holders.

Steps

1. This holiday is a time when Jews rededicate themselves to their customs and traditions. These Dancing Dreidels placemats and napkin rings can be used on your holiday table all during Chanukah.

2. Decorate construction paper or cardboard placemats with Crayola® Crayons. You might write Hebrew letters, or draw a menorah, dreidels, Star of David, or other appropriate symbols. Apply crayon thickly to cover the placemats.

3. Cut napkin rings from a cardboard roll with Crayola Scissors. Decorate the rolls with crayon.

4. From cardboard, cut out dreidels, four-sided spinning tops that are used in a game played at Chanukah. Color the dreidels. Glue them on the napkin rings with Crayola School Glue.

Safety Guidelines

Adult supervision is required for any arts & crafts project. Observe children closely and intervene as necessary to prevent potential safety problems and ensure appropriate use of arts and crafts materials. Some craft items, particularly beads and buttons, are potential choking hazards for young children. Avoid use of such small parts with children younger than 3 years. Craft items such as scissors, push pins and chenille sticks may have sharp points or edges. Avoid use of materials with sharp points by children younger than 4 years. Read all manufacturers' safety warnings before using arts and craft supplies.

Recycled Cardboard Tubes—Use paper towel tubes, gift-wrap tubes, or long cardboard tubes that can be cut to any length. Health professionals caution against using recycled toilet paper tubes for arts & crafts projects because of the potential fecal contamination.

Scissors—ATTENTION: The cutting edges of scissors are sharp and care should be taken whenever cutting or handling. Blunt-tip scissors should be used only by children 4 years and older. Pointed-tip scissors should be used only by children 6 years and older.

Interesting Info

About 2,000 years ago, Jews fought for 3 years to recapture their temple. After they recaptured it, they had only enough oil to light the temple for 1 day. A miracle occurred when the oil lasted long enough for Jews to rededicate their temple 8 days later.
