From Head to Toe, Creature Dress-Ups

Why

Create fashionable animal attire! Mix and match amazing outfits on your very own creature cutouts!

Steps

1. On file folders, use Crayola Heads ‘n Tails™ Dual-Ended Crayons to draw and color your favorite animals. Make each animal about the same height and width so they can share clothes.

2. Cut out each animal with Crayola Scissors, making sure that the bottom of each cutout is straight so the animal can stand up. Cut a 1-inch (2.5 cm) slit from the bottom and up the center.

3. Cut a 1-inch x 3-inch (2.5 cm x 7.6 cm) file folder rectangle for each animal. Slide rectangles into the slit on the bottom of each animal. Now your creatures can stand on their own!

4. With more file folders, use the Heads ‘n Tails Crayons to design and color tops, bottoms, and accessories for your animals! You have double the colors to choose! Cut out each piece.

5. Attach small pieces of hook and loop fastener tape to the top and bottom of each animal. Attach matching pieces to the clothes and accessories you designed.

6. Mix and match your creations for fun, fashionable outfits for your animals!

Where & When

"My children and their friends made several different characters and put on small plays with their paper dolls. They added animals and even people to their cast all summer long! "
Liz K., mother of 5- and 7-year-olds.

"I keep file folders and Heads ‘n Tails in my babysitting. The double colors take less space. Kids even skip watching TV to put on fashion shows with these creatures! "
Daniella R., teenage babysitter.

Interesting Info

Egyptian dolls dating back to 2000 BCE were made from flat pieces of wood and decorated with paint. Hair was created with strings of clay or wooden beads. In North America, Hopi children play with similar wooden dolls.
