Jungle Binoculars
Search for wildlife in your imagination with these cardboard-tube binoculars! Transform a back yard, park, or your house into a jungle teeming with wildlife.
1. Find two recycled cardboard tubes that are the same length or cut one in half with Crayola® Scissors.
2. Cut strips of light-colored crepe paper to fit around each tube. Rub a Crayola Glue Stick on one tube. Wrap crepe paper strips over the glue. Repeat with the other tube.
3. Lay tubes side by side. Place two rubber bands around both tubes.
4. Put glue on one end of a long piece of crepe paper. Attach it near the end of one tube. Wrap the crepe paper around both tubes to cover the rubber bands. Glue down the loose end.
5. Imagine the animals and plants you might see on a safari. Use Crayola Gel Markers to draw them on your binoculars. Have fun exploring your pretend jungle-in your back yard, house, or at the park!
Adult supervision is required for any arts & crafts project. Observe children closely and intervene as necessary to prevent potential safety problems and ensure appropriate use of arts and crafts materials. Some craft items, particularly beads and buttons, are potential choking hazards for young children. Avoid use of such small parts with children younger than 3 years. Craft items such as scissors, push pins and chenille sticks may have sharp points or edges. Avoid use of materials with sharp points by children younger than 4 years. Read all manufacturers' safety warnings before using arts and craft supplies.
Recycled Cardboard Tubes—Use paper towel tubes, gift-wrap tubes, or long cardboard tubes that can be cut to any length. Health professionals caution against using recycled toilet paper tubes for arts & crafts projects because of the potential fecal contamination.
Scissors—ATTENTION: The cutting edges of scissors are sharp and care should be taken whenever cutting or handling. Blunt-tip scissors should be used only by children 4 years and older. Pointed-tip scissors should be used only by children 6 years and older.
