Loopy Loops & Squiggly Wigglies

Why

Are you seeing double (or triple)? Bright designs, patterns, and pictures multiply when you ask a grown-up to band together different colored markers. What fun for everyone!

Steps

1. When you mix colors, shapes, and patterns, the possibilities for exciting designs are endless---loopy loops, squiggly wiggly lines, spotty dots, and curvy circles in magical movement.

2. Choose three or four different Crayola® Markers. Ask an adult to help you rubber band them together in a bundle. Remove the caps and make sure that the tips of the markers all touch the paper at the same time.

3. Draw while you hold the whole bunch. Lift the markers off the page at times. Try putting marks inside shapes you’ve already made. Make abstract designs as well as pictures. Whatever you do, it will be bright and BOLD! Everyone in your family will want to have a turn.

Where & When

"My kids drew on the tips and then the sides of the nibs for very creative looks. They’re learning Spanish, so they loved saying the color names."
Hunter J., father of 4- and 6-year-olds.

"We tried this activity on damp coffee filters and paper towels. It was cool to see the results as the colors spread."
Aziza B., after-school care provider.
