Mermaid Photo Holder
Bestow good luck upon your friends when you place their photos in a mermaid holder made from fun-to-shape Crayola Model Magic® Fusion™ modeling compound.
1. Since ancient times, mermaids (mythical half-fish, half-woman creatures) have captured the attention of storytellers. Some sailors and fishers feel spotting a mermaid is a bad omen while others see them as lucky. Here’s one way to make a photo holder with a mermaid base.
2. Slightly blend two or more colors of Crayola Model Magic® Fusion™ for the fish part of your mermaid. Catch the effervescence of wet, scaly surfaces. With the mixture, cover the top part of the plastic bottle. Shape the mermaid’s graceful tail from a thick coil of the compound (perhaps with a chenille stick-armature underneath). Incise and texturize scales with a marker cap or other tool.
3. Apply Fusion compound to the bottle’s mid-section for the mermaid’s torso. Choose a bright color for her top.
4. Create more coils to attach to the main body for her arms and neck. Sculpt a head and her facial features. Connect her head to the neck. Use recycled items as armatures for a base where needed. Form small coils for her long locks or use a garlic press to make her tresses. Fusion dries to the touch overnight and air-dries completely in 2 or 3 days.
5. Cut and shape several lengths of wire to hold photos (allow for extra length to stick into mermaid). Form the wire into related shapes such as fish fins if you like. Stick wires into the dry sculpture and secure with Crayola School Glue.
6. Embellish your sea creature with beads and sequins. Outline facial features using Crayola Squeezeables™ 3D Paint. Illuminate her clothing, hair, and scales with Crayola Glitter Glue highlights. Air-dry the photo holder before inserting your favorite pictures.
