Presto Dots Penguin

Why

Create a "cool" penguin that stands out from the crowd. Model Magic® Presto Dots makes it easy!

Steps

1. Let’s get started! Create a base for your penguin by gently pushing two foam balls onto either end of a short wooden dowel stick. When the foam balls have been connected, you should not be able to see the dowel. This will be the head and body of the penguin.

2. Cover your bases! Press or roll a smooth layer of black Model Magic large enough to cover the head of the penguin. Press the Model Magic firmly around the head. Press or roll a smooth layer of white Model Magic large enough to cover the body of the penguin. Press the Model Magic firmly around the body. Smooth out any gaps so the base is completely covered.

3. Dot, dot, dot. Roll out another layer of black Model Magic. Push the Presto Dot tool down into the Model Magic. When the tool can’t go any further, give your wrist a twist, tilt the tool back, and pull it up. Tap the bottom of the tool gently on the head of the penguin and pull your hand away to release the dot. The dot will stick to the surface. Repeat this process until the entire head of the penguin is covered in dots.

4. Just wing it! Roll out two wings for the penguin and press them onto the body. Model Magic that is fresh from the package will stick to itself.

5. Take a stand. Roll out orange Model Magic to create two feet for the penguin. Gently press the penguin onto its feet. If desired, cover the feet in dots using the same technique above.

6. It’s all in the details. Use additional bits of Model Magic to make eyes, a beak and other details to bring your penguin to life. Allow the Model Magic to air dry.

Crayola Modeling Materials including Crayola Model Magic®, and Model Magic Fusion™, Crayola Air-Dry Clay, and Crayola Dough—

  • Keep away from open flames. Do not use to make candleholders, hot plates, trivets, or other similar objects that will be used or placed near fire and other heat sources.
  • Do not put in an oven, microwave, or kiln.
  • Do not make into vessels/containers that will hold unpackaged food.
  • The use of modeling material to make items that look like food is discouraged for children younger than age 5 to avoid their confusion with real food.
  • Unless sealed with a water-resistant glaze, do not make projects exposed to or immersed in water, such as boats or outdoor bird feeders. They would disintegrate when exposed to moisture.
  • Crayola Dough—contains gluten (wheat flour) as an ingredient.
  • Crayola Air-Dry Clay, Crayola Model Magic and Model Magic Fusion are gluten-free. However, they are produced on the same machinery as Crayola Dough which does contain gluten. Although the machines are cleaned prior to the start of each production run, there is a slight possibility that trace amounts of gluten from Crayola Dough may be present in the other modeling compound products. For information regarding specific ingredients or allergic concerns, please call our Consumer Affairs department at 1-800-272-9652 weekdays between 9 AM and 4 PM Eastern Standard Time.

Modeling Tools—Use the least dangerous point or edge sufficient to do the job. For example, craft sticks, plastic knives and forks, and cookie cutters can cut or carve modeling materials.

Wood—By its nature, wood is rough and may contain splinters or sharp points
