See My Scribbles! Card

Why

Save those scribbles! Turn your child’s budding creativity into greeting cards, thank-you notes, or even colorful gift wrap for family and friends!

Steps

1. Prepare for fun! Help your toddler put on an artist smock. "Artists wear smocks. It’s time to put yours on, too." Together, cover your child’s art area with newspaper. Set out paper from a Crayola Giant Easel Pad, Floor Pad, or Construction Paper, one sheet at a time.

2. Show the Crayola Beginnings™ TaDoodles™ First Marks to your child. The markers naturally fit a toddler’s palm grasp. Describe and show the markers to your child. "Each is a different animal and a different color. The pink marker is a pig! When the animal stands on its head, you make marks on paper."

3. Demonstrate how to hold the TaDoodles. Some toddlers will immediately scribble with their markers on the paper. Others may need time to warm up to the idea. Let your child discover how the markers work! Exploring is what toddlers do best!

4. To help keep toddlers focused, suggest or model ways to make marks that intrigue them. "What will happen when I press the top of the frog’s head on the paper? Here comes the frog, hop, hop, hop! Press down and…it makes a green dot! Now it’s your turn to hop the frog!" Expect bright scribbles, dabs, splats, and lots of wiggles!

5. To create cards, fold scribbled paper in half. Write a greeting inside or add a photo of your child making the card. Use larger sheets for gift wrap or to frame. Family and friends will be thrilled with your child’s creativity!
