See the Sea Vacation

Why

What to do with your seashell collection? Relive your warm beach memories with these colorful shells.

Steps

1. Ask an adult for permission to decorate large clam or scallop shells, or any seashells that are white inside. Clean the shells so that they are clear of debris and sand. Dry.

2. Create ocean views inside the shells using Crayola® Gel Markers. Sunsets, dolphins jumping, fish swimming, crabs scurrying, or a sailboat on the water are just a few scenes that will remind you of a beach vacation all year long.

"We created a display of shells while we studied oceans and their inhabitants. Each child chose shells to decorate."
Luz E., family child care provider.

Interesting Info

Throughout history, shells have been used in many ways. They have been used for art, jewelry, money, scientific study, buttons, ink, road gravel, and as chicken feed (for stronger egg shells!).
