Serendipity Swirls & Dots

Why

What can you make with only dots and swirls? Choose just one or two design doodles and see what happens!

Steps

1. On Crayola Black Color Explosion™ Paper, use a Black Color Explosion Marker to draw ONLY swirls and dots. Just move your hand and let them happen.

2. What designs or pictures start to emerge from your markings? Add more squiggles to take your picture in the direction you want or continue to draw by chance.

3. When you’re finished drawing, cut out around some of the lines. What interesting effects can you create?

Where & When

"My grandson does this type of "automatic drawing" before going to bed. It seems to throw off the cares of the day and quiet him for a peaceful night’s sleep. "
Sogand H., grandmother of 7-year-old.

"The kids liked having a different direction for their art. It was a challenge to create something only with certain markings." "
Monica C., camp counselor.

Interesting Info

Some professional artists like to create artwork by allowing their hand to move randomly across the paper or canvas. They believe that this technique allows what is in their mind (their subconscious) to come across in their work.
