Sidewalk-Size Tic-Tac-Toe

Why

Set up your own life-size outdoor Tic-Tac-Toe board. Using Crayola Chalk ’n Roll™ is as much fun as playing the game!

Steps

1. Tic-Tac-Toe is such a simple game that all the rules fit in the ditty "Tic-Tac-Toe, Three in a row." Here’s how to make an outdoor game grid to use with your friends as real-life players.

2. Ask an adult to help you find a safe, large outdoor area for your game. Outline a big Tic-Tac-Toe box with your Chalk ’n Roll. Cross the box twice, going up and down, and then two more times going across the box. You’ll have nine boxes inside the border.

3. Choose who goes first. Draw Xs and Os (or any two symbols you like) with the sidewalk chalk. Players alternate filling in a box to try to get three marks in a row. When you finish, draw another grid for the next game!

Where & When

"We like to call this game hugs and kisses. Guess what the winner gets. "
Devars E., father of 4-, 6-, and 7-year-olds.

"Our older children love teaching the younger ones how to play. It’s so easy to make the grid and explain the rules. "
Vang L., after-school volunteer.

Interesting Info

Tic-Tac-Toe was the seed for more complex games such as Nine Men Morris and Go-Moku. Now it inspires many computer programmers to plot the possible variables and moves.
