Sing-Along Scenes

Why

Music inspires creativity. Play or sing a favorite song while children draw a scene to illustrate what they hear.

Steps

1. Pick a song you know well and that brings to mind a picture, such as "Old MacDonald" or "Row, Row." Sing along with a recording or sing by yourself from memory.

2. Sketch pictures of things you heard about in the song with Crayola® Erasable Colored Pencils on white paper.

3. Repeat the song several times. Add objects to your drawing that you think should be there. For example, Old MacDonald's farm probably had a barn, although it's not mentioned in the song.

4. Add details to your drawing with Crayola Washable Markers and Washable Crayons.

Safety Guidelines

Adult supervision is required for any arts & crafts project. Observe children closely and intervene as necessary to prevent potential safety problems and ensure appropriate use of arts and crafts materials. Some craft items, particularly beads and buttons, are potential choking hazards for young children. Avoid use of such small parts with children younger than 3 years. Craft items such as scissors, push pins and chenille sticks may have sharp points or edges. Avoid use of materials with sharp points by children younger than 4 years. Read all manufacturers' safety warnings before using arts and craft supplies.
