Single-Shape Drawing

Why

Challenge children to create a picture using only one shape. Watch their brains and artwork get into shape as they think creatively.

Steps

1. Pick one shape to use in your drawing such as triangle, square, rectangle, circle, diamond, oval, or octagon.

2. With Crayola® Crayons, outline a picture using only that one shape to form the objects and scene. Think creatively!

3. Complete your picture by coloring it.

Safety Guidelines

Adult supervision is required for any arts & crafts project. Observe children closely and intervene as necessary to prevent potential safety problems and ensure appropriate use of arts and crafts materials. Some craft items, particularly beads and buttons, are potential choking hazards for young children. Avoid use of such small parts with children younger than 3 years. Craft items such as scissors, push pins and chenille sticks may have sharp points or edges. Avoid use of materials with sharp points by children younger than 4 years. Read all manufacturers' safety warnings before using arts and craft supplies.

Interesting Info

Shape, an element of art, is created when lines meet. There are two types of shapes in art: geometric and organic. Circles, squares, and triangles are geometric shapes. Leaves, flowers, and clouds are organic shapes found in nature.
