Smoosh & Moosh Mobile
Smoosh Squeezables™ 3-D Paint colors together on acetate for cool effects! Cut pieces into a colorful mobile to flutter in the breeze.
1. Cover your craft area with recycled newspaper. Use Crayola Scissors to cut acetate sheets into several 3-inch (76 mm) squares. You will need two squares for each shape on your mobile.
2. Arrange four acetate squares on white paper, leaving space around each one. Trace around the outside of each square with Crayola Erasable Colored Pencils. Lay the acetate pieces aside.
3. Squeeze at least two colors of Crayola Squeezables™ 3-D Paint in the middle of a paper square. Make dots, swirls, spirals, stripes, anything goes!
4. Cover the wet paint with acetate square. Gently press your fingers on top to smoosh the paint around under the acetate. Can you make dots, swirls, spirals, and stripes in the paint? Decorate the remaining squares in the same way. Air-dry all of the painted squares.
5. When the paint is dry, cut around the paper squares. Pair up the dry, paint-decorated acetate squares. Use Crayola School Glue to attach squares together paper side-to-paper side. Match up the corners evenly. Air-dry the glue.
6. While the glue dries, make a mobile frame. Here’s one way: Curl the ends of three chenille sticks into small loops. Grasp all of the sticks in the middle and twist them together three or four times. Fan out the ends like the rays of the sun to make the mobile arms. Bend the chenille arms into loose zigzags. Your mobile frame is now ready for your dry shapes!
7. On your squares, outline shapes with Crayola Fine Line Markers: animals, geometrics, free-form, flowers, rockets, balloons, or anything you can imagine! Cut out the shapes just outside the marker lines. Outline the other side of each shape. Use the marker or more Squeezables to add details. Air-dry the paint before you turn over any shapes.
8. Punch a hole in each dry shape. Cut and tie ribbon to hang them at different lengths. Tie shapes to the mobile frame. Hang your mobile indoors to dance in the breeze.
Adult supervision is required for any arts & crafts project. Observe children closely and intervene as necessary to prevent potential safety problems and ensure appropriate use of arts and crafts materials. Some craft items, particularly beads and buttons, are potential choking hazards for young children. Avoid use of such small parts with children younger than 3 years. Craft items such as scissors, push pins and chenille sticks may have sharp points or edges. Avoid use of materials with sharp points by children younger than 4 years. Read all manufacturers' safety warnings before using arts and craft supplies.
Squeezables® 3-D Paint—
WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD—Small parts. Not for children under 3 years. Not for use on skin.
Scissors—ATTENTION: The cutting edges of scissors are sharp and care should be taken whenever cutting or handling. Blunt-tip scissors should be used only by children 4 years and older. Pointed-tip scissors should be used only by children 6 years and older.
String-Like Materials—Includes string, raffia, lacing, yarn, ribbon, and other similar material. Children 3 years and younger should not be given any string-like material that is longer than 12 inches. Close adult supervision is essential whenever children use string-like material. When crafts are to be worn around the necks of children 8 years and younger, attach the ends of the “string-like material” with clear adhesive tape, which allows easy release of the bond if the craft becomes entangled or caught on equipment. For children older than 8 years, the ends of the “string-like material” may be tied and knotted.
