Turtle Party! Tags and Tables

Why

Slow down! It's time for a turtle party! Create turtle place-setting tags. Decorate with a table runner that's great for after-dinner games and turtle races.

Steps

1. Ask an adult to tell a story about turtles such as Yertle the Turtle. Or make up a slow-poke turtle story with your friends. Then get ready for a turtle party!

2. To make Turtle Place Tags: Cover your art area with newspaper. Use Crayola® Washable Markers to decorate small paper plates with turtle-shell colors. Use lots of imagination! Write names on your turtles.

3. Decorate turtle shells with Crayola Glitter Glue. Dry.

4. On construction paper, use Crayola Erasable Colored Pencils to draw four legs, a tail, and a head for each turtle. Color them with markers. Attach them to the backs of plates with Crayola Glue Sticks. Use the name cards to who where people sit at your party.

5. To make a Turtle Table Game: Cut roll paper to fit your table. Or use a plain paper tablecloth. Draw a pond for your turtles. You could make lily pads and ripples of water. Maybe draw logs or rocks for sunning and tall grass for shade. Is it time to eat? Your pond makes a great tablecloth.

6. After you eat, hold turtle races on the table runner. Write the words START and FINISH at the ends. Turtles hop or swim from one stop to another!
