Whale Wonders
Encourage imaginations and empathy for living things large and small. Whales intrigue humans because both species are warm-blooded and nurse our young.
1. Did you know that whales live in every ocean of the world? Imagine what whales think about as they swim. Such large animals spend a lot of time finding something to eat. To get enough food, some whales suck in seawater and then spit it out, which traps food such as plankton.
2. Scientists think whales communicate by coming out of the water (breaching) and slapping the surface with their tails, as well as by making noises underwater.
3. With Crayola® Crayons and Crayola Metallic FX Crayons, draw a swimming whale. Is your whale searching for food? Communicating with other whales? Traveling to cleaner water? What other sea plants and animals live around your whale?
Adult supervision is required for any arts & crafts project.
