Window, Window, Window Cards

Why

Use the Crayola Cutter to create peek-through windows in a 3-D card. The highlighted photograph turns your card into a memorable keepsake.

Steps

1. Watch these cards being made on Crayola CreaTiVe Workshop. When you see the steps being demonstrated, you’ll see how easy they are to assemble!

2. Begin with two large pieces of white construction paper (12 in x 18 in [305cm x 457cm]). Fold both sheets of paper in half, bringing the long sides together. Fold each folded paper in thirds, bringing short sides across, so the paper is folded into three equal sections. Unfold to see lines separating each paper into six sections.

3. Use your Crayola Cutter to cut one sheet in half along the long center line. These two long pieces will be the front and back of the card. On the other folded paper, cut out the two middle sections.

4. Use a Crayola Erasable Colored Pencil and a cookie cutter (such as the star and heart samples) to trace a holiday shape on each of the two middle sections and in the center section of one long piece (this will be the front cover).

5. Cut away each traced shape, varying the sizes as follows: Cut one larger than the traced shape (on the long piece), one smaller than the traced shape (on one of the middle sections), and one the same size as the traced shape (on the other middle section). With the Cutter, you can cut any shape or size, even in the middle of your paper!

6. Decorate around each of the windows using your favorite Crayola Crayons, Colored Pencils, and/or Markers. Add sparkling Crayola Glitter Glue designs too! Air-dry the glue.

7. Glue a photo to the center section of the back cover. Zigzag fold (like an accordion or fan) the outer sections of both long pieces. Glue the ends of the zigzag folds to the front and back sections.

8. Decide where to fit the middle windows in the folded sections. Put glue along the edges and slide them into place. Squeeze to attach firmly. Peek through the Window, Window, Window Card to see your photo—set off by your awesome designs!

Kathy A., PTA volunteer.

"This was a fun, ongoing activity. Each week, children constructed another window. The best thing of all: children began creating their own folded-paper variations! "
Rod T., after-school program leader.
