Your Own Business Builders
Looking for a fun way to earn money? Create your own business! Turn your most enterprising idea into reality with Your Own Business Builders.
1. Start with a great idea! Use Crayola® Erasable Colored Pencils to list products or services you could provide: open a lemonade stand, walk dogs, create magnets to sell. Choose the idea that stands out for you. Write down your own recipe, plan, or design for the product or service you will offer.
2. Think of a catchy business name—choose one that tells what you offer. Design the name in a fancy logo on large paper, cardboard, or posterboard. Use Crayola Markers to trace over the lettering design to make it jump out.
3. Make an accounting book to keep track of money and your budget. Fold three pieces of paper in half by bringing the shorter sides together. Open and fold the sides to the center fold. Pull the papers apart. Rub a Crayola Glue Stick over the two central rectangles of one sheet. Press a second sheet over it, matching the fold lines. Glue the two central rectangles of the second sheet. Press the third sheet on top. Write your budget plan in the middle two rectangles of the book. Keep track of your expenses on the pages that open on the left. Keep track of your profits on the pages that open on the right.
4. Create a money box with some change. Cover a box and its lid with newspaper. Tape it on. Design your business logo on the box with markers and Crayola Glitter Glue. Air-dry the glue.
5. Advertise! Design large and small signs advertising your business. Include your product name, prices, hours of operation, location, and any special promotions (such as two glasses of lemonade for a lower price or best rates for 10 dog walks). Add sparkle and pizzazz with glitter glue. Air-dry your signs. Ask permission to post signs in your yard or neighborhood. For small tabletop signs, tape sticks to them. Poke sticks into balls of Crayola Modeling Clay to make them stand up.
6. Be safe. Talk with a grown-up about your safety and the safety of your customers. If your business is selling lemonade, think of safe places to open, such as during a yard sale or family member's softball game. If you have an outdoor business, use Crayola Sidewalk Paint to roll or brush signs in a safe place. Wash off the Sidewalk Paint within 2 weeks with a garden hose or rain. Choose customers you know well and be sure you have the permission of a grown-up in your family!
