Remarks from teachers who tested the lessons in Supporting Creativity Beyond the Classroom:
"Students related to the simple style of Jacob Lawrence's art. The messages in the Great Migration Series had an impact on the children I have not seen in regular classes all year. Giving students an opportunity to create art in the style of Lawrence in this Dream-makers lesson allowed them to relate to a culture and time that helped promote tolerance in their own culture and in the present time. You know what I mean. Any time these kids can 'put themselves in the shoes of others' helps them know 'we are all in this together."-Mary Copeland, Art Teacher, Riverside Middle School, Fort Worth, Texas

"We went on the internet to find examples of mosaics, and the children were surprised to find a number of examples of mosaics in our building! We talked about the city where we all live and the things that describe our city. Their responses were great, but it was their drawings that really amazed me and even them."-Joanne O'Connor NJ After 3 - Cold Springs School, Gloucester City, New Jersey

"It is the end of the first year of NJ After 3 and it was a great year for our staff and families at the Paterson YMCA. The Dream-Makers lessons were definitely a highlight to our year and I wanted to thank you. The children really demonstrated creativity and worked hard."-Ron Cope NJ After 3 at Paterson YMCA Paterson, New Jersey
