Stitch warm sentiments with colorful yarn to create homespun cards and matching envelopes—for Valentine’s Day or any time you want to express your love!
Making puns is fun. A pun is uses a word in such a way as to suggest two or more of the word’s meanings or the meaning of another word similar in sound. Think of card messages that make puns because the card is stitched or sewn, such as I love you "sew" much!
Send this card with the empty stitching holes and the yarn, with instructions about how to finish the card.
Assessment: Children create and send at least two cards with messages that are spelled properly. They demonstrate stitching confidence in preparing their craft.
Students fabricate homemade cards and write appropriate caring messages on them.
Students practice simple sewing techniques to decorate their cards.

WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD—Small parts. Not for children under 3 years. Not for use on skin.
String-Like Materials—Includes string, raffia, lacing, yarn, ribbon, and other similar material. Children 3 years and younger should not be given any string-like material that is longer than 12 inches. Close adult supervision is essential whenever children use string-like material. When crafts are to be worn around the necks of children 8 years and younger, attach the ends of the “string-like material” with clear adhesive tape, which allows easy release of the bond if the craft becomes entangled or caught on equipment. For children older than 8 years, the ends of the “string-like material” may be tied and knotted.
