Conquer the Castle Playground Game
Be an architect to design castle floor plans! Play a fun game inside your building!
1. With a few of your classmates, use Crayola 3-D Sidewalk Chalk to design a floor plan for your castle fortress. The Sidewalk Chalk Tools may be a big help.
2. Make each room for a different purpose such as throne room, great hall, wardrobes, lords and ladies chambers, and the like. You could even make unusual rooms, such as a computer room, to update your castle design.
3. Add fun details such as furniture. Remember to draw from a bird’s-eye view.
4. To play a game, gently toss a stone into the castle. Whatever room it lands in is the room you play for. Take turns thinking of something that might be found in the room. Whoever can think of the most things draws a picture of themselves in that room and claims it as their own!
Adult supervision is required for any arts & crafts project. Observe children closely and intervene as necessary to prevent potential safety problems and ensure appropriate use of arts and crafts materials. Some craft items, particularly beads and buttons, are potential choking hazards for young children. Avoid use of such small parts with children younger than 3 years. Craft items such as scissors, push pins and chenille sticks may have sharp points or edges. Avoid use of materials with sharp points by children younger than 4 years. Read all manufacturers' safety warnings before using arts and craft supplies.
3D Glasses—Should only be used for viewing 3D images. Do not wear for long periods of time or while performing physical activities. Not to be used as sunglasses.
Outdoor Crafts—Choose safe outdoor areas, away from traffic and dangerous equipment. Close adult supervision is required.
- Students create floor plans of their own homes. What objects can they remember? Have students self-correct the next day.
- Draw an almost life-size replica of a real castle or other building on a blocked-off parking lot. Use drawings and photographs to make it as accurate as possible.
- Assessment: Students will be successful if they can create a floor plan layout and participate in the game, or other activities, cooperatively with their peers.
