Glow-Fish Under the Sea
Create a tranquil underwater scene filled with fascinating fish that glow in the dark. Combine Crayola® Gel Markers with your imagination!
1. Find information about fish, their underwater environment, and especially fish that glow in the dark, such as squid and jellyfish. What plants grow in areas where these fish live? What other fish are likely to be there?
2. On black construction paper, use Crayola Gel Markers to sketch an underwaterscape including various types of fish and plants. Color them in to show their varying hues. Make the colors rich and deep!
3. Use Crayola Glue Sticks to attach the picture to a larger piece of colored construction paper so it looks matted. Display.
Adult supervision is required for any arts & crafts project. Observe children closely and intervene as necessary to prevent potential safety problems and ensure appropriate use of arts and crafts materials. Some craft items, particularly beads and buttons, are potential choking hazards for young children. Avoid use of such small parts with children younger than 3 years. Craft items such as scissors, push pins and chenille sticks may have sharp points or edges. Avoid use of materials with sharp points by children younger than 4 years. Read all manufacturers' safety warnings before using arts and craft supplies.
- If possible, visit an aquarium so children can see these creatures firsthand. Children with special needs may find it helpful to look at pictures of fish while they draw, or to use adaptive equipment as they work.
- Find information on frightening sea creatures, the creeps from the deep. Then draw a seascape showing how deep-diving submersibles or television cameras operated by remote control are lowered from ships in order to see these special fish.
- Draw some of these strange-looking sea creatures with huge eyes, such as the Oreo fish who live miles beneath the ocean.
