Magic Mountain Mansion
It's all about details! Use adjectives to write about a dream mansion and include details in your pencil and marker drawing.
1. Think creatively about how you would design a dream mansion in the mountains. How many stories would it be? What kind of rooms would you have? What would the setting look like? What magic could you do?
2. With black Crayola® Markers, draw an outline of your magic mansion on white construction paper.
3. With a partner, discuss and then write creative descriptions of your mansions with Crayola Colored Pencils. Write on every other line so you can fit in more details when you revise your description later.
4. With your classmates, brainstorm a list of colorful adjectives that might be used to describe Magic Mountain Mansions and their surroundings. Write your words on a chart with markers.
5. Use editing marks to indicate revisions and additions to your mansion descriptions. Include new adjectives that best describe your imagined scene.
6. Add color to your mansions and mountain setting in much the same way you added adjectives to your writing.
7. Write a second description of your completed setting, using more adjectives to color your writing.

- Emerging writers compose complete sentences about their mansions. After sharing sentences and brainstorming adjectives, cut sentences into separate words, then write adjectives on a slip of paper. Place adjectives in sentences where they fit best. Write new sentences in bright colors at the top or bottom of drawings before adding a background.
- Imagine mansions inside mountains, or built underground. How would the setting affect the design?
- Write a play or story about events that take place in the mansion.
