Nature's Golden Treasures
Pine cones, leaves, and other natural objects radiate when covered with gold Crayola® Premier™ Tempera and Glitter Glue. Create natural gifts with a decorative flair!
1. With an adult supervising, collect fallen plant parts such as pinecones, seed pods, and leaves. Choose only those that are safe to handle. Look for varied and unusual shapes and textures. Wash hands when you return indoors.
2. Cover your art area with newspaper. Identify the names of the trees and other plants from which your natural items fell.
3. Paint your plant material with gold Crayola Premier Tempera using Crayola Paint Brushes. Dry.
4. Use your imagination to decorate your painted treasures with Crayola Glitter Glue. Dry.
5. Add a hanger of ribbon, raffia, string, or yarn. Hang as ornaments, use as gift package decorations, or display for a holiday.
Adult supervision is required for any arts & crafts project. Observe children closely and intervene as necessary to prevent potential safety problems and ensure appropriate use of arts and crafts materials. Some craft items, particularly beads and buttons, are potential choking hazards for young children. Avoid use of such small parts with children younger than 3 years. Craft items such as scissors, push pins and chenille sticks may have sharp points or edges. Avoid use of materials with sharp points by children younger than 4 years. Read all manufacturers' safety warnings before using arts and craft supplies.
Glitter Glue—
WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD—Small parts. Not for children under 3 years. Not for use on skin.
Crayola Washable Paints—Not for use as body/face paint.
String-Like Materials—Includes string, raffia, lacing, yarn, ribbon, and other similar material. Children 3 years and younger should not be given any string-like material that is longer than 12 inches. Close adult supervision is essential whenever children use string-like material. When crafts are to be worn around the necks of children 8 years and younger, attach the ends of the “string-like material” with clear adhesive tape, which allows easy release of the bond if the craft becomes entangled or caught on equipment. For children older than 8 years, the ends of the “string-like material” may be tied and knotted.
- Offer assistance to children whose disabilities make it challenging to collect or paint found items outdoors.
- Create feeders for winter birds by filling a pine cone with peanut butter. Coat with bird seed.
- Paint pine cones with Crayola Tempera. Add craft feathers to form realistic and imaginary birds.
