The Land of Pebbles
Imagine an environment unlike any on earth. Use Crayola® Crayons and Markers to create a unique landscape, blending the marker colors with a wet Crayola Paint Brush.
1. Compare a variety of ecosystems, and the animals and people that live there. What aspects of those environments are important to their survival? Imagine an environment unlike any on earth.
2. Cover a table top with recycled newspaper. On construction paper, draw an environment, including landscape, plants, and creatures with Crayola Crayons. For a pebbled effect, press and twist the end of the crayon (opposite the point) on your paper.
3. In larger areas, use Crayola Washable Markers to fill in color. Use a wet Crayola Paint Brush to blend the marker for a watercolor effect. Dry on a flat surface.
4. Use markers to add details.
5. Write a short story about the environment you created, and the creatures that inhabit it.
Adult supervision is required for any arts & crafts project. Observe children closely and intervene as necessary to prevent potential safety problems and ensure appropriate use of arts and crafts materials. Some craft items, particularly beads and buttons, are potential choking hazards for young children. Avoid use of such small parts with children younger than 3 years. Craft items such as scissors, push pins and chenille sticks may have sharp points or edges. Avoid use of materials with sharp points by children younger than 4 years. Read all manufacturers' safety warnings before using arts and craft supplies.
- Create a drawing for each type of environment (arid, rainforest, woodlands). Fill environments with animals who live there, and show people in appropriate clothing.
- Use Crayola Model Magic to sculpt the creatures in an environment. Paint them with Crayola Tempera Paint.
- Find information about the Italian epiphany festival each January in which a kindly witch, Befana, bestows gifts to well-behaved children and pebbles or lumps of coal to others. Write about which you deserve (gifts or pebbles) and why.
