Geometric Wisdom

Combine shapes and design to create a geometric work of art.

  • 30 to 60 minutes
  • Directions

    1. Bring art and geometry together by creating simple designs with triangles and squares with Crayola® Washable Markers.
    2. Create a design using Crayola Washable Markers on a piece of construction paper.
    3. Use Crayola Scissors to cut out triangles and squares in various sizes from both the decorated paper and plain white paper.
    4. Arrange the geometric shapes into a pleasing design or pattern on a large piece of construction paper.
    5. Attach the geometric shapes onto the construction paper with a Crayola Glue Stick.

    MATH: Reason with shapes and their attributes.

    MATH: Analyze, compare, create, and compose shapes.

    VA: Students will investigate, plan and work through materials and ideas to make works of art and design.

    VA: Students demonstrate an understanding that creative thinking skills transfer to all aspects of life.

  • Adaptations

    Introduce students to tangrams. Start off with 2 shapes and add more until all seven tangram shapes are included.

    Classroom resources include: Three Pigs, One Wolf and Seven Magic Shapes by Grace Maccarone and The Tangram ABC Book by Dr. T.E. Foster.
